The focus has changed in the programs offered at Mandala and you will notice that many of the programs from the past are no longer available.
I will be offering Tellington Ttouch Method clinics, for both horses and dogs, here at Mandala, and will also be travelling to offer clinics in other areas of the Maritime Provinces. Private consultations will also be available.
Dr. Elizabeth King and I will still be offering the Healing with Horses Psychotherapy Services.
A limited number of weekly Riding Sessions will also be available.
*********
The Tellington Training Method and Ttouch is a unique approach to healthcare and training developed by well known animal trainer Linda Tellington Jones. Ttouch techniques are designed to establish communication, trust, respect and joy with all animals.
Ttouch can improve the partnership between animals and their people, increase the animals ability to learn, change inappropriate behavior and help animals to adapt to new situations.
These techniques develop understanding and cooperation rather than fear and resistance.
This gentle method is easy to learn. A series of circular touches and lifts, activating neural pathways and awakening cellular function can help the animal override a variety of problems.
The Tellington Touch Training Method promotes the partnership between horse and human. The Ttouches discover areas of the body that indicate tension, fear of contact, lack of trust, soreness or discomfort that may limit the horses ability to cooperate or perform.
A series of circular touches and lifts, activating neural pathways and awakening cellular function, can help the horse override many problems. The person practising the Ttouch also derives great benefit.
The Tellington Method ground exercises, using the Playground of Higher Learning, enables the horse, by working through a variety of obstacles and leading positions, to override old patterns and to learn without fear or force.
The exercises result in heightened self-control, focus, self confidence, balance, cooperation, and coordination. Results will quickly start to be apparent, showing improved communication, trust, respect and joy.
Ttouch will allow you to deepen your relationship with your canine companion and is a wonderful way to give back to your dog even if he/she has no health or behavioural problems.
The Tellington Method can also be very helpful with the following problems:
- Excessive barking and/or chewing
- Reducing fear and anxiety
- Overcoming fear of loud noises
- Improving mental, physical and emotional balance
- Reducing pain, inflammation and arthritis
- Supporting post operative care
- Overcoming car sickness
- Aids in emergency care and prevention of shock
- Provides comfort for older dogs
- Promotes relaxation
The Ground Exercises or Confidence Course:
- Helps the dog to think and focus
- Improves balance and coordination
- Improves self confidence
- Develops self control
- Alleviates leash pulling
- Builds trust with the handler
Healing with Horses Psychotherapy Services is facilitated by the horses at Mandala, myself (Olga Comeau), and Dr. Elizabeth King. Elizabeth is an MD, a GP Psychotherapist, a Zen Shiatsu Therapist, and a Reiki Master.
Elizabeth says “ My training and experience is in Western and Eastern Medicine and Psychotherapy. I have felt a strong connection with horses since I was a child. I love working with Olga, the horses, and the clients. Mandala provides a sacred and safe space to witness and guide the healing and growing process. Being part of this brings me joy and nourishment.”
This approach to Psychotherapy, personal growth work, and corporate learning is rapidly growing throughout the world. The treatment team consists of a Psychotherapist, Dr. Elizabeth King, an Equine Specialist, Olga Comeau, and several horses.
Through their interaction with the horses, the client gains an awareness of relationship dynamics and their own strengths and weaknesses. Horses are herd animals and are extremely intuitive. They are experts at picking up info from the other horses and the humans they interact with. The horse reacts to what the client is feeling inside, as opposed to the conscious or unconscious mask they have put on. The pattern of what is happening in the clients other relationships, which is not working for them, is mirrored in their relationship with the horse.
The Equine Specialist interprets, to the Therapist, the horse’s behavior and relationship with the client. She also assigns the activities with the horse and makes suggestions for positive change.
The Therapist uses the information from the Equine Specialist and her own observations to guide or process the issues with the client. In most cases the clients are given space to become aware themselves where they are stuck and to make the needed changes. The client may feel uncomfortable from a build up of tension/frustration, but they know that support and guidance are always available..
Becoming aware of the problem and following through with the change on the emotional, mental and physical planes has a powerful impact on the client. The pattern is changed and the results are tangible and celebrated. The client is then more able to bring this change into their daily lives.
Horses connect with authenticity and respond immediately once the needed change occurs. This gives encouragement to the client and boosts self esteem and confidence. Working outside with these amazing animals, surrounded by the peaceful beauty of Mandala, often holds more appeal to the client than an office setting.
These sessions are completely bound by confidentiality and Mandala is closed to others on Healing with Horses days. Appointments can be booked through Dr. King's office at 902-665-3075.
This year I will be offering a limited number of weekly lessons.
